Orthodontic Treatments

Correction of dental and skeletal disorders in our teeth and jaws is called orthodontic treatment, or braces, among the people. Although most people think that orthodontics specialists only correct the crooked teeth, in fact, the jaw bones, even the bones that make up our head, and the head and neck muscles are of interest to the orthodontist. There are several methods of correcting tooth crowding. The most common method is metal braces, which almost everyone knows. Metal braces, which adhere to the teeth with special adhesives, straighten the teeth with appropriate forces.

Clear braces, also known as invisible dental braces, produced with high technology, have also been produced for people who are uncomfortable with the appearance of metal braces. Clear braces are also called porcelain braces or white dental braces. These braces are fixed and less visible than metal braces. In recent years, an application called clear aligner treatment has been developed for people who do not want to wear braces. In clear aligner treatment, aligners that correct crowding are produced using digital scans taken from the teeth. These aligners are replaced once a week or every 10 days, and over time, the teeth improve.

When it comes to clear aligner treatment, the first brand that comes to mind is invisalign. In addition to these techniques, there is another treatment method that is generally applied in children and is called palate among the people. This method is generally used in the treatment of narrow lower jaw in childhood. Orthodontics specialists can use these treatments separately or together, depending on the severity of the disorder in the teeth and bones. The definitive treatment plan is formed as a result of the examination.

In cases where skeletal disorders in adults are reflected in the facial structure, treatments called orthognathic surgery, including orthodontics and surgery, can be applied. This; It is an adult treatment. In the treatment of orthognathic surgery, the orthodontist arranges the teeth in the most appropriate way after the operation, and makes the operation plan to optimize the facial aesthetics and smile design. Orthognathic surgery is usually performed by maxillofacial surgeons and plastic surgeons. The general plan of the treatment is arranged by the Orthodontist.

The treatment protocol is created by the Orthodontist and maxillofacial surgeon in the Atasehir Orthodontics Clinic team.

What is Orthognathic Surgery?

Although the lower jaw retrognathia is also common, it is less aesthetically pleasing. In this case, the treatment planning is done not only to correct the teeth, but also to bring the lower jaw to the correct position by surgery. In this way, the external appearance of the face also changes a lot. This treatment is called orthognathic surgery (Jaw surgery).

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a tooth correction treatment using clear aligners. Invisalign treatment was developed after adults demanded orthodontic treatment in a way that would not be noticed from the outside. In this treatment, metal or porcelain attachments called brackets are not placed to the teeth surface. Instead, a clear aligner is used that surrounds the teeth. This aligner is about 1 mm thick and is almost invisible.
